Hey nice job! This looks like a rigorous and excelling college prep course selection. Great work by our administrators on coming up with this (click to enlarge.)...
Governing Board Packet 2/9/10
Update: Wait a minute, this just in. Apprently not so much work or thought went into it and the curriculum is identical to one from a school in Chandler.
Hamilton Prep Program of Study
They even left in the "Life Connections" course, a course unique to Chandler. Maybe we should run the board packet through Turnitin. :)
But aside from the the potential cribbing, the bigger issue is how is the distirct going to maintain, staff, and finance these 7th through 12th programs...
Honors at CSHS
IB at CSHS
AP at CSHS
Honors at CSPA
AP at CSPA
Honors at STMS
CK at DSES
Seems like a lot of duplication of effort that will require more experienced and highly qualified teachers in a time when budgets are falling and elementary class sizes are rising. Also where are the funds coming from to build biology, chemistry, and physics labs that AP requires?
P.S.
There are some major holes in this program.
1) Where is the Latin\Greek? 6 years of Spanish is a waste.
2) That is not a very challenging math track. It should start with algebra in 7th and offer Trig in 10th, AP Calc AB in 11th and AP Calc BC in 12th. Of course with CCUSD students suffering under Everyday Math and Connected Math, they probably are not ready for algebra.
3) Why only allow for one year of AP science? AP Environmental Science? Really? :(
4) Life Connections? Huh? As we importing this from Chandler?
Call us haters but if you don't offer something at least comparable or something that offers more you are never going to succeed. We give this school a 30% chance of opening this fall as most acheiveing students have already made their enrollment decision. Odds for a successful opening are better for the following school year.
