Cave Creek district won't seek override in fall election
An advisory committee suggested in February that the district seek an override this fall to retain teachers' jobs, but warned that board members and administrators would have to work hard during the spring to persuade community members to support it.
But with several controversial issues - such as approving free full-day kindergarten and especially closing Desert Arroyo last month - neither the board nor the administration was able to focus on a potential bond election.
More failure from the administration. Instead of listening to the committee that they hand picked, they choose to focus on the prep academy, virtual schooling to keep athletes from fleeing, DAMS K-8 conversion, etc.. yet they still choose to spend funds on a survey despite the fact that no effort by the administration or the board was made to "work hard during the spring to persuade community members to support it". Just more taxpayer dollars poured down the drain to determine the obvious.
One thing we did now find out from the survey, ADK is at the bottom of list of community support (also obvious).
From the survey...
Important to (Very and Somewhat Important %):
School Maintenance 89.8
Student Achievement 87.1
Maintain Art, Band, PE 86.3
Keep Small Class Sizes 86.3
Competitive Salaries for Teachers and Staff 86.3
Athletics 84.6
Classroom Supplies 84.1
Staff training 81.3
Imporve School Safety 80.8
Transportation 76.3
Full Day K 64.7
I think the board has made the best decision possible. While the committee was charged with figuring out what the schools needed, the reality is that the likelihood of passage was not there. While you complain about wasted taxpayer money, I believe the board and admin has just saved money being wasted on another failed ballot initiative. Perhaps the community will look more favorably at future initiatives when they stop feeling that the board/admin is coming to them with a collection pot every November.
ReplyDeleteOk,so they did one thing right.... the next question... when is the "right" time to try to put this back on a ballot? How long with the "healing" take? Will there ever be a right time? Only time will tell.
ReplyDeleteNEVER!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's right. Doesn't matter if there are even new people sitting in the dilapidated trailers. People living in the Cave Creek school district will still blame them for their predecessors. Has happened already as many of you blame the current group for things that happened prior to their tenure.
ReplyDeleteIt really has nothing to do with the district. Many of the people living in the district are wealthy and cheap. They have already educated their kids and how dare we ask them to help educate ours even if they put their own kids through public school at one time.
The new people in the trailers are just duplicates of the folks that sat there before them. We need to go out and do a complete talent search for all the Adminstrator positions. We did not get the best of the best with Debbi Burdick. Whe need someone in the office that can do more than sell a powerpoint poorly.
ReplyDeleteYou do not realize how lucky you are to have Debbi Burdick, a Superintendent that is even well liked by her employees. I am back in a top performing district out of state and dealing with all of the arrogance that accompanies it.
ReplyDeleteAll that a talent search will do is cost the taxpayers money to a headhunter. It won't solve the fundamental problems with state funding formulas for schools in Arizona and a tax base that is anti-tax.
Lucky to have Burdick, ha! Her inexperinece has been shown time and time again. Look at the sports fiasco (football, basketball, baseball, AD) at CSHS and the loss of Monica Barrett.
ReplyDeleteOf course the employees like her, she puts district jobs over parent's desires and what is best for the the students.
Amen June 16 at 11:17am. She is a joke as a leader. She is breeding incompetence in her employees.
