New Education Reform Group in Scottsdale: Parents for Super Schools

If you are looking for an education reform group that isn't beholden to school district leadership or the teacher's associations and does not believe that more money is the only solution, be sure to check out this new Scottsdale based group.
Parents for Super Schools

They describe themselves as:

About: A Non-Partisan Education Reform Grass Root Movement that Advocates for Parents and Students.

Description: Why did we start "Parents For Super Schools"? Why are we different from other parent groups?

Because we realize that there are dozens of parent and political groups lobbying for public schools, teachers, administrators, and school vendors but none of them represents the interests of our children. We are a group that advocates for parents and students. We believe in an education system that is parent friendly and student focused. Parents should be empowered to seek the best options for their children. Parents know best and they act in the best of interest of their children.

Our motto: "We can't afford to wait for Superman."

About our page, we understand that as parents we are concerned with many education issues and we would like to comment on all of these issues. But we must stay on message and post only issues that focus on parent empowerment, school options, and education reform. As moderators at times, we will displace comments that we feel are not related to topics. We apologize in advance and thank you for being so understanding and supportive.

Mission: Our mission is to inform the public about education reform issues and legislative updates, to empower parents and students with school options, and to advocate for the highest standards of education for all Arizona students.

  1. Thanks for posting this information. Is this group only for school choice?

We've been very frustrated with STMS this year in regards to teacher behavior, specifically several teachers promoting political agendas. Here are just a few examples:

A science teacher claiming that students not believing in global warming "theory" only do so because of their parents....who only believe so because of "how they were raised." A statement that insults two generations of Americans and tells students "teacher knows best, not mom and dad."

A teacher throwing a fist in the air and quoting, "Power to the people," with a backdrop of posters of Joseph Stalin on the classroom wall...in a United States history class. The teaching of the Declaration of Independence was done within a "unit" on propaganda and fit well with the teacher's claim that the Declaration of Independence was a propaganda piece. Recently, the textbook and teacher promoted the fall of the Berlin wall as an accomplishment of Carter. (enough said?)

A teacher tells her class of 13 and 14 year olds that the moodiness is due to menopause.

Other teachers imply that April 22nd was a day off because of Earth Day. Not because of the "Spring Break" noted on the district calendar and ignoring the fact that this day is Good Friday for Christians and the Jewish Passover week.

Where is the supervision of our teachers? Who's looking out for our students?

When we look for ideas or support to address these concerns, all we hear is "pull your kids out." That comes from CCUSD advocates and "school choice" advocates. Where are the advocates for our students in our schools?

Are others concerned about this type of political indoctrination being conducted in our schools, especially while test scores drop? Does anyone else see a correlation?

Any ideas on how to work with CCUSD to improve the learning environment in our schools for the benefit of our students rather than CCUSD or a political agenda?

  2. I feel your pain as I too tried in vain to work with ccusd, eventually I put my children first and took the easy way out...I gave in to their "Dont like it leave" motto and found happiness 2.5 miles outside of their boundries. I'm sad to be outside of my community, sad that my children left friendships that had formed in the time we were a part of the Cave Creek District (and no Deb Burdick I'm not a school hopper stuck with CCUSD for nearly 10 years) but we found a better education, a staff that listens to your concerns and teachers that are happy. Some have their own political agendas but as a family we discuss our principles and weigh the options of what they have heard at school. Teachers in our new district have been disciplined and even removed for improper behavior in the classroom. There has been no donations of copy paper,no endless fundraising efforts, there are new computer labs, new ipads, iphones and ipods, no leaking roofs, or moldy carpet. Try Explorer as an option or Foothills, Freedom or Bella Vista or Ventana your children will find 100's of familiar faces and you'll get CCUSD's attention in a different way because you will be impacting their pocketbook.

  3. We have been there many times with you both, (the previous two commenters). Sadly, the only way to get the school admnistrators to listen to us, parents, is to control their funding. Trust me, we have been to many school boards meetings and have tried to reason with these bureaucrats. All they do is pointificate and assign responsibility to others. With parents in charge, Parent Empowerment, the adminstrators will have to be accountable to us. Currently, the adminstrators are the masters and we are the servers. Let change our status to customers or clients. Most organizations have to listen to their customers or clients or they go out of business. As parents, we need to unite and organize to make sure our voice is being heard. If we don't, we will continue at their mercy.
