According to Parents For Super Schools, Scottsdale superintendent Gary Catalana has resigned. The SUSD governing board is to meet this evening to discuss accepting his resignation.
Mr. Catalina was one of those who retired (in Illinois) then came to Arizona to get another position, while still collecting his pension in Illinois. Illinois law would not have allowed him to double dip. His total compensation topped $400,000, according to the Chicago Tribune.
We fully endorse any local superintendents in our area to promptly apply for this open position.
It's Dr. Catalani. The problem with the information you are supplying here is that this is how our state operates. Double dipping is alive and well in the Fire Department (s) and the Police Department (s) as well as the School District (s). Regardless of how much $$ he is earning it is still a fixed burden on the state (since his other $$ comes from Illinois) he has not committed a crime and considering he has 31 schools under his watch the 170,000 or so that her earns is a lot less than the salary Deb Burdick earns for lackluster efforts here in Cave Creek and just 7 schools.
ReplyDeleteParents for Super Schools is a Great Idea however no one knows what their agenda is or how they intend to fix what is broken here in Arizona. Blindly following anyone nowadays makes no more sense than supporting a district that ignores their community.
If Parents for Super Schools has a plan, a direction and solutions for how to accomplish the concerns they identified, they need to share them otherwise it is just another great idea to add to our wish list.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Double dipping is legal. Our politicians designed it so that it benefits them and their cronies. But you are probably the same naysayer that thinks it is appalling for millionaires to exploit tax loopholes. Exploiting loopholes in any system is unethical, immoral, and unconscionable especially when it is on the backs of our children.
There is a rumor that Dr. Catalani will receive a full pension from SUSD after 2 years of service. We urge the SUSD Board to release his employment contract to disprove this rumor. We can only hope that we are not on the hook for this millionaire’s luxurious lifestyle.
As for our agenda, we have no agenda. All of our information is forthcoming on our blog and FaceBook page. If you are still not convinced and truly interested in education reform solutions, please contact us at Parentsforsuperschools@gmail.com and we will be glad to sit down with you and explain in details what we are all about, unless you are someone who is just trying to discredit our group for your own agenda. Please prove us wrong and contact us. We would love to meet with you and share our short and long range plans with you. We have nothing to hide.

I am not trying to discredit your group I actually think it is a great idea and wish you much success. Personally I feel that every complaint or critic needs to offer a reasonable solution and a means of accomplishing such. We all know it's broken what can we do to fix it and actually make a difference?
ReplyDeleteThen join us and let fix it together. LIKED our FaceBook Page. Spread the word. As parents, we need to unite and organize. As a group, our voice will be heard. We intend to affect changes and we are not going away until our education system is reformed. Thank you for your comments.
