Scottsdale Republic calls for Cave Creek Unified to merge with larger district

In a stunning editorial the Scottsdale Republic calls for Cave Creek Unified and Fountain Hills Unified to merge with larger neighboring imagedistricts…

Cave Creek, Ftn. Hills schools should join big districts

The editorial wraps up with this…

Ultimately, this all comes down to one question: Would Cave Creek and Fountain Hills students get a better education as part of a larger district? The evidence suggests they would.

You may think that the the Republic is going out on limb, but there really is no risk.  No way would voters in either of those districts approve a merger.

We completely agree that merging with Paradise Valley Unified would be good for the students of Cave Creek Unified.

We completely disagree where the blame lies. The Scottsdale Republic tries to lay blame on the voters. The true blame for the  district woes lie with the Governing Board and the current and past administrations. These collective groups have angered the community and failed to make academic achievement a priority. As a result, the district on a continues on a path of mediocrity utterly failing the students it serves and putting our district in a hole it may never recover from.

As a result of the board’s\administration’s inaction on academics and focus on financial gambits\legislative games, charter, private schools, and open enrollment are taking the best of our families, leaving behind a set of uninvolved parents too busy to vote for education or notice that their students are not receiving the education they deserve.

If you need anymore proof of the district’s failure, go check out the SUSD buses that come into Troon each day transporting students to\from Copper Ridge or the private shuttles that pick up\drop off daily at Tatum and Dynamite taking many of our best and brightest to a far off charter school.

CCUSD® may be a registered trademark, but years of neglect have associated it with a lesson in how not to run a district instead of an identifying mark representing the best schools in Arizona.

  1. Oh good luck with that. I can just see all of the Cave Creek no voters lining up to vote for such a merger when they realize how much their property taxes will go up.

You think it is an academics/administration thing Watch, but I would be willing to bet that for most of the no voters it is a money thing, pure and simple. In fact, I'd love to see such an initiative go to the voters. I think for once the local rag might just say some good things about CCUSD and the need to keep it autonomous.
