More Excelling at CCUSD, Part II

I promised a couple of days ago to show you more excelling at CCUSD. This time it comes in the form of Advanced Placement scores. While all AP scores as CCUSD have been falling, none are doing as bad as AP Science...

Cave Creek Unified District AP Science - Score 3 or Above (%)

2005 28.2
2004 44.7
2003 41.7
2002 65.0

I mean this is just pathetic. 7 out of 10 students taking the AP Science test are falling. Someone needs to be held accountable for this sad performance.

  1. Traditionally students struggle more on AP math and science exams compared to other AP subjects; these exams tend to be more challenging. Of course, this does not explain the decline in AP science scores.

I think it is important to recognize the consequences of high teacher turnover rates. CCUSD, like many districts, has difficulty attracting and retaining teachers in core subject areas, especially in math and science.

This year's sign-on bonuses helped to attract a few new teachers, but the lack of analogous compensation for seasoned teachers may result in additional turnover. That's the sad reality.

Finally, it is important to recognize that class sizes have increased over the years, resulting in less individualized instruction.

    Just my 2 cents.
