Cave Creek Unified School District is replacing five of its eight principals this fall, PLUS a board member quits in disgust and not a peep from the Arizona Republic, yet today we get a story about one FHUSD principal leaving.
Principal quits because she can't sell her home
Speaking of The Arizona Republic, CCUSD's own PIO Nedda Shafir has a blog on the Arizona Republic's Education section. She is not quite as prolific as some bloggers, but we will keep an eye out.
Member Blog: Nedda's blog
Ms. Shafir did write a wonderful story that appeared in the paper for Mother's Day. You can read it here...
We raise our children, and then they raise us
Starting Monday, July 7th, the Maricopa County Superintendent of Schools will begin posting candidate information for the governing board elections this fall. You can view them here...
Candidate Information
We appreciate governing board candidate Mark Warren's comments here and look forward to engaging other candidates about the district.
Have a great and safe Independence Day weekend.
I heard they hired another former PVUSD administrator for one of the elementary schools. Oh, how the CCUSD employees are going to love that! They already complain so much about the PV invasion Ashby is leading.
ReplyDeleteI heard a very different rumor. Maybe we'll find out for sure after the next boe meeting.

Re: the principal in FH not selling home. I doubt that story was considered newsworthy by Republic because of FH schools angle. It is probably just more of the doom and gloom about the real estate market that the media is enjoying spreading these days.
ReplyDeleteHey did you ever consider that PV is doing something right and that CCUSD could learn from them? Or are all of you that narrow-minded that you are not willing to learn something from someone else and just stomp your feet saying "let's just keep things the way they are"? This doesn't mean that CCUSD has to adopt Everything from PV but my friends who live in Cave Creek and send their kids to PV's schools sure aren't complaining. Rather they are very complimentary about the schools their children attend.
ReplyDeleteThey did hire someone from PV to be one of the two principals of the elementary schools. Not sure which one.
ReplyDeleteDr. Donna Lewis is now listed on Cactus Shadows website as Principal.
ReplyDeleteDear Watch,
ReplyDeleteHere is an interesting link for helping people weigh boe candidates: http://www.greatschools.net/cgi-bin/showarticle/al/45/?page=1
I found it interesting because the article clearly articulates that the boe will set the perception for the entire district. I think that the inability of our board to meet some of the criteria on this list are impacting that perception.

Honeymom,
ReplyDeleteGreat work. What did you think of the part in the article about...
How can I tell if my school board is doing a good job?
* How does the school board make decisions?
* How's the team spirit?
* Is the board's authority well defined?
* Does the board understand the community?
Watch,
ReplyDeleteI've yet to personally observe a board meeting.
It is obvious from the minutes that we have problems. But, I can't specify who is at the cause of these problems because it is not 100% clear from the minutes. I've read weak leadership, Clancy's partisanship for her constituency and leaks to SN, Styles Johnston giving admin a hard time, Member Christensen giving admin a hard time, boe members in tears, near tears, and no, I was never crying - I'm too tough to be bullied. Truth is stranger than fiction and in my wildest imagination, I couldn't conjure this one up.
I think that the reason that there is a negative perception of the district by many is a direct result of our boe. I've been analyzing the district as a parent who has had great teachers, great classrooms, kids doing well so I wasn't even aware of these problems until I heard about them from others. Our boe certainly gives outlets like yours and the SN plenty of fuel for the fire. I see a lot of posters on here battling your views vs. the administration, the curriculum, the teaching. I rarely see people speaking in defense of the boe. It is very telling.
So, I will be paying close attention to who runs this fall, and making my decisions wisely. I thought others might find the article helpful in their decision making.

Hi HM,
ReplyDeleteCan you send us a private email to ccusdwatch@hotmail.com
We will be moving this blog to a new platform and the webmaster was wondering if you had an interest in helping out.
Thanks...
I will get in touch with you tomorrow. Just realize that even if I do help out, it doesn't mean that I am crossing to the dark side.
