Will judge's decision blow a $1m+ hole in Cave Creek Unified budget?

Update: Looks like the judge put a stay on this and hopefully Career Ladder will be safe for this year. http://bit.ly/du3O0v

A judge ruled that the Career Ladder program which allows our teachers to earn up to an extra $4K per year is unconstitutional. Gilbert Unifed filed suit against the state arguing that the program is not uniform in its distrbution of state monies as only 28 of the state's district were involved in the prorgram.

You can read the Gilbert lawsuit here..

Career Ladder was already on the phase out path due to the budget crisis. There is no way that the state could find the money to fully fund this. Look for the legistlature to cut this from the budget altogether. Cave Creek Unifed does partcipate in the program (funded about 2/3 from local property taxes and 1/3 from the state) to the tune of around $1.3 million. This could really hurt and is a huge and saddening blow to our teachers.
