Sonoran News: DAMS to be leased to YMCA

The Sonoran News is reporting that...

And, despite the fact DAMS was being considered for closure over the past several months, the district replaced the gym floor rather than reprioritizing the needs of the district.

Burdick told a parent the school will be leased out and, therefore, the work still needed to be completed.

Sonoran News has since learned the district plans to lease DAMS to the YMCA, although no such agenda item has come before the board.

So the backdoor machinations finally see the light of day. Funny we never saw that mentioned in all of those Powerpoint slides.

  1. Should this surprise - surprise you? Par for the course, it seems. I guess we should be glad that the district will have some rental income at least.

  3. But the Adminstration and some Board members will swear to your face there is no "behind the scenes hidden agenda's". It is actually disrespectful to us as parents and voters that they think we are that stupid. All there has been so far is behind the scenes agenda's and "pet" projects by some on the Board and the Adminstration. It was never more evident that the CS Academy, the online school and Desert Sun Core Knowledge k-8. Why isn't anyone asking what the withdrawl and record requests numbers are???? That will tell the story..59 High School students, 50 plus 7/8 graders and some 15 6th graders at the very least...Come on Board, ask the tough questions....we deserve the answers!

  4. If this leasing plan is true.. I think we shold be thankful the district will get rental income from this arrangement. Better than letting the gym/campus sit idle...

I don't think that we will truly know the collateral damage the closure of DAMS (and/or any of the other decisions made by the board/administration) will have on CCUSD until after school starts in August. We can't necessarily infer that just because a record request from outside the district has come for student "x", that student "x" is definitely leaving the district. (ex. student didn't get into the school of their choice or changes their mind about leaving during summer break).

I do think that come Aug/Sept ..we should ask and expect answers from the district as to exactly how many kids withdrew from the district (regardless of alleged or perceived reason)- and the demographics of those who left (elem, mid or high). We deserve to know.

  5. I think that CCUSD Watch is following the Sonoran News down the rabbit hole on this one.
