CCUSD has another million to play with

The Arizona Republic reported today that Cave Creek Unified had received $1.175 million as its share of the $26 billion Union Payoff Edujobs bill that congress passed. So nice of them to burden our Mandarin speaking (but not writing) students with a much larger national debt that they and their children will have to deal with at some point.  Maybe when China owns the US that Mandarin will come in handy.

Any hoo, you dear reader, of course you read it here first with our post back in August where we stated that CCUSD would be receiving this money. Our estimate was $1,087,761. Pretty close. The Republic writes its story with this nonsensical bullet point.

- The district received $1.175 million from the federal government from the education jobs bill signed in August. The status of this funding had been uncertain. Other districts, including Scottsdale and Fountain Hills, hired teachers before the money arrived, while Cave Creek waited.

"Waited." What does that mean?  CCUSD will now be hiring more employees?  Waited for what, since when, for who? Sure is amateur reporting hour at the Republic. Must have been one of the Konkrite Kids who cut and paste the email they received from the district. "Uncertain".  Not a chance, there was no uncertainty with this money. The second that Obama signed this bill, the money was coming.  No way the state was turning it down.  The only uncertainty was how much of a cut the state would take (limited to 2% max).

Can't wait to hear how this money is spent (not holding breath).  Under terms of the contract with CCEA, it most likely will be going to across the board wage increases.  Keep raising those funds you PTOs.  Our new 'technology friendly' math programs work best with Smart boards and we will need to fill out every classroom in the district with computers, Smart boards, pay for installation fees, buy $300 replacement bulbs, and fund the electricity to run it all.

  1. I think we can be assured this money is "SAFE" the state can't ask for it back...but according to the Cactus Shadows Press Many students who left the district (over the closure of DAMS) are coming back and Mr Chris Hazeltine rolled out the welcome mat...He was quoted in the paper referencing their return as "Parents with their tails between their legs"...With a welcome back like that I am sure the district will need to hire many more teachers to accommodate the flood of families returning to such a positive environment.

  2. MSNBC has an article on booming China's innovations today. While we look down on China because it is a Communist country and Communism is not something that I believe in, they must be doing something right.

I think the US is going in the wrong direction. What has driven the debt more than anything, were unfunded tax cuts (tax cuts without corresponding spending cuts). We seem to be willing to underfund education, technology, etc. If we continue to head down this highway, pretty soon we will be the third world nation that China once was. Good thing that our students are learning Mandarin. It may come in use when they have to take low paid menial labor jobs for innovative Chinese companies.

  3. Wow Watch - you snipe at learning to speak Chinese, but not write? Were you writing in the womb? Don't know about you, but most were 4-5 years old before basic English scrawl was even underway--after YEARS of listening and speaking only. No doubt your parents didn't speak to you first just shoved a pencil in your hand and said get to work. Take a look at the business section of the Arizona Republic on 10/25 - not one but two local articles on Chinese business endeavors. Hmmm, the rest of the world looked at Great Britain and the United States and saw them as rising powers and learned to speak their languages, but we are not bright enough to do the same?

Read it here first? You self-congratulate for something the district already knew? I think anyone reading this blog already knows if CCUSD would have chose to spend the money which was not in hand, you would have blasted them for doing so.

Bring on the Smart boards!!! They are one of the best educational technology tools invented.

  4. Watch,

It is difficult for me to understand your logic. On one hand, you continuously claim that district administrators are not to be trusted. On the other hand, you criticize teacher associations. It seems to me that teachers SHOULD "associate" in effort to stand up for quality education on the front line (in the classroom). And yes, to a certain degree, this includes advocating for salaries that help to attract and retain the best teachers. There are teacher openings every year; in fact this year there were A LOT OF THEM.

    Please explain.
