Sonoran News: CSHS coach accused of showing students pornography

From the Sonoran News...

CSHS coach accused of showing students pornography

It is no fault of the district for the employee's actions, but geesh, at least perform the background check before putting them in charge of our children and when they can't spell the name of their former employer and they leave critical information on the application blank, seems like a huge red flag.

Any takers on the likelyhood that any CCUSD administrator will be held responsible?

  1. I work for an organization that does background checks only to find out after this person had been with us for years, did some inappropriate actions. A background check is all good and fine but it's like living in a gated community - it gives a false sense of security.

  2. The district is responsible for background checks. If the district is hiring before the check is completed, with full knowledge that there can be up to a 4 month delay, the district certainly has some culpability.

Parents should expect reasonable precautions and if the district is hiring before a completed background check, then the district should have a system in place to do at least a cursory check. It sounds as if the Sonoran News was able to find out quite a bit with a few phone calls.

It was troubling to read that the principal of CSHS and the superintendent both refused to answer whether or not this man was still employeed or coaching students. It certainly seems that parents have a right to know and it is disturbing to hear that the district appears to think otherwise.
