2011 Cave Creek Unified CCUSD AIMS Scores

It gets tiresome but here you go.  As always, these scores are good for comparing schools, but not much else.

Below is 5th Grade Math, showing schools in PVUSD, SUSD, DVUSD, and FUSD that performed better than the lowest performing CCUSD school.

Frankly the range in scores (92 at LMES [nice work!] to 78 at DSES) shows how little control the administration has or exerts.

And the dreaded 8th grades scores where about 30% of Cave Creek Unified 8th graders cannot pass the AIMS Math test…

And our high school significantly underperforms its adjacent neighbors…

  1. Where are the reading and writing scores?
What about the Science numbers? Do you want us to think that the district is a total failure?
You are cowardly by not highlighting all of the stats. I went to the ADE website and the district is doing okay in some categories and very well in others, despite the fact that you and the Northern end of the district want us all to fail. Why don't you just throw the whole district under the bus and say we should be Charter schools. Ooops weren't they chastised for discriminating against students who have special needs and learning disabilities??

  2. Learning disabilities??? For most (who are labeled with a learning disabilty) they just learn differently...public schools just like to label these children so they can shift the blame rather than embrace an opportunity...CCUSD does a great job of neglecting the children with 504's and IEP's... don't save all the blame for the charters.

I would like to see all of the scores not just the ones that paint the dismal failures however Watch does make a good point that our standards are not level across the district at least in math.

Cave Creek Unified has one of the most consistent demographics in a district. Why would we see such great results in one school and not in another?...and what can we do about it, should we all run over to Lone Mountain or should the district address what the test results show and communicate a plan to make learning opportunities level across the district?

  3. Most of the children at Foothills academy come from within the district boundaries. It is a terrific example of what could be accomplished with what we have on less money with good leadership. Someone should be asking what those kids are getting that Cactus Shadows kids are not

It is so disappointing to see CCUSD93 below Deer Valley...Deer Valley was the arm pit of education I bet they are glad to have CCUSD93 sharing the spotlight now...What a SHAME

And if the results of the reading and writing deserve applause I will be happy to share my praise.

It will not change the fact that we are the bottom of the bucket in MATH!

  4. Desert Sun had all of the districts attention and these are the results? This was what the community wanted, uniforms and Core Knowledge. It is hard to forget the board meeting where the principal (who has since left the building) talked about their Uniform selections as we all patiently waited to here the status of the DAMS closure.

This is a fine example of Deb Burdick and Jana Miller running their own show. You can't blame the North for those stats this is what the districts says the community wants.

The districts priorities are wrong. We can't fix stupid but we can vote it out in 2012

  5. July 14 @3:56

Isn't this a question you should be asking the district???

Silly me of course you expect Watch to supply all of the information Your school board took the month of and of course Deb Burdick isn't concerned, she got an award for last years lack luster performance... a three year contract!

  6. I received a pre-recorded phone call from Steve Bebee "acting as a concerned citizen" on behalf of learn yes asking me to vote in the upcoming election. I don't even know what the message said because I was so shocked that he would use his role as the principle of Cactus Shadows to access personal information that I immediately hung up. I do not give out my cell phone number. Some of the few places that have access to my number are the schools my children attend. If I was even remotely considering voting yes for the bond before this incident I have now switched most unequivocally to a NO!

Didn’t the district pull this last time using ill-gotten email addresses? They haven’t seemed to have learned their lesson.

  7. July 19, 2011 6:55 AM - You should base your vote on the issue and nothing else. Voting no because you're annoyed that Bebee called your cell phone is silly.

  8. Bebee is the Principal, not the principle.

  9. The fact is, should the District equipement be used as well as the database by a District Principal to send a message home about that organization? My question is this because the District has put such controls of getting information on sporting options...it just doesn't seem right. Does anyone know if there are rules against them doing that?

  10. There are rules for campaigning and principles for principals to follow (glad you know the difference @July 21 6:54 am)

And yes our Board Member used school property to push his personal agenda...Common note here is you can't bully people into a yes vote, you can't wear two hates and not have people question your motives.

And those who sing the districts praises...what have you gained from this administration? It is a sad day when Deer Valley trumps Cave Creek Unified in any Academics.

  11. @July 14, charter schools are public schools that operate with the same guidelines as public schools. Charter schools have to admit all students. That is why they have a lottery to make sure everyone has an opportunity to be admitted. You are either uninformed or you are forgetting the facts. No, most parents I know do not want to turn all the public schools into charter schools. We would love to have our kids attend the neighborhood public schools but our kids have to attend charter or private schools because public schools have lowered their standards and are underperforming. We criticize public schools in the hope that these educators will fix the public schools so our children can come back. So please do not spread your misinformation and myths.

@July 20, using the school database to make campaigning calls to parents is illegal. Our state laws do not permitted school employees to use school resources for campaigning purposes. I am sure the County DA would be interested in this case. Principal Bebee has no problems breaking the laws to achieve his campaigning goals. He and his friends though will sue to see that disabled children shouldn't get their vouchers under the misguided defense of separation of church and state. The proponents of throw more money at schools so that we will get more economic benefits have no problems breaking the law as long as it is in their favors.

  12. July 22 - I wasn't commenting on whether the phone call was legal or not I'm not a lawyer and would never claim to know the legalities of this situation. I stand by my statement, your vote should be based on the issue and nothing else.

  13. Unfortunately, yes, a school board member did use private emails to try to influence the outcome of the last school board elections. Also, unfortunately, the principal of CSHS was not the only principal calling people's private cell phone numbers. I also only give out my cell number for the use of the school if there is an emergency with my children, not for any district employees personal use. I was quite shocked to hear a message from another principal claiming to be calling "as a private citizen" (on a cell phone number never shared with him as "a private citizen."). Seems to be skating a pretty fine line. Nothing new, though.

It would be more productive for the district to respect people's privacy and intelligence. Listen to your families' concerns, communicate a clear and meaningful message that matches the community's desires, and follow election laws.

  14. @July 25, I totally agree with you. These principals who are supposed to be role models to our children and the pillars of the community are bending the law. It is disgraceful and shameful that these educators are put in charge of our schools. Next time when one of the kids skirt the law, they can point out the examples that are set by these principals. BTW, where I come from, parents would have demanded that the school district fire these employees. I am very surprised that CCUSD parents just don't care about the law. Are they too busy watch TV? So again, it is a shame that CCUSD parents do not have the courage to stand up to these CCUSD scofflaws.
