Apparently things are going so well in Cave Creek Unified that the governing board has decided to take off the month of July. They decided to cancel the single board meeting in July becuase they had done so well with the budget.
Not suprisingly, AIMS, Stanford 10, AZ Learns Labels and AYP notification are also scheduled for public release in July. At least this will give the administration a month come up with a whole new set of excuses for why our schools under perform.
If you are a governing board member, you should request to be notified of these scores NOW, as they have been released to the districts.

AIMS Scores and excelling labels really don't matter in Cave Creek...don't you remember last year????? The board awarded Deb Burdick a THREE YEAR CONTRACT...and after doing so learned of the less than lackluster AIMS results.
ReplyDeleteYou can't fix stupid but you sure can vote it out in 2012
You know what is interesting about this blog and the "ghosts" that chime in here, if the district falls short of your expectations for AIMS results, the Board and the Superintendent suck. If the district does well on AIMS, the testing and the vehicles suck. Why don't you decide what you want to complain about and just highlight it. The Board can't take credit for success or failure in the classroom, like President Obama can't take credit for what Seal Team Six did in Pakistan. It all boils down to what the troops on the front lines do, not what the bureaucrats and Generals far removed from the battle do. The success and failure of this district rides on the backs of the teachers and support staff. They do their best to educate the kids and help prepare them for what lies ahead. It angers me to see the bloggers on this website disparage the work they do when they slam the district. Look at the facts, the teachers in this district have been using out of date materials and mismatched curriculum to teach our kids. Yet somehow we still do ok(if not better than ok) according to an ambiguous and questionable standard. I challenge any of you Monday Morning quarterbacks to do your job with tools that are out of date and with an ever changing expectation. My guess is you would cower in the corner and run away. You would blame an unfair system and discrimination. You would probably file suit against your company for hostile conditions or unfair practices. Our teachers and our district work hard to take care of the most important assets we have, our kids. And what do you do, you undermine their efforts, blame others for your failings and fault them when your kids have challenges outside of the classroom. WAKE UP! If you want to make a difference for your kids stop hiding behind the skirts of an anonymous blog and quit complaining about principals and superintendents and secretaries and board members. Help the teachers help your kids, otherwise shut up.
ReplyDeleteThe school board must be feeling pretty good about this news, too.

But it sure does leave a bad taste in my mouth. So I guess I'll still be voting no.
Word to the not so wise CCUSD Fan Club..."SHUT UP" is not a term one uses when trying to win friends and influence people...
ReplyDeleteWe have something the district needs, students and yes votes..."Shut Up" may be all you have in your arsenal but I would suggest you delve a little deeper, maybe use a thesaurus or consult a public relations expert to come up with a better tactic to win over the opposition.

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you mistake me for someone who thinks that the people who actively post on this website care about anything more than buildings and special programs; that anyone here really cares about improving our district. My goal of chiming in was to point out how you who "vote down" things because someone closed a middle school or let a staff member go, are selfish and small minded. I gave up trying to change people like you years ago. It's like talking to a brick wall. Voting down things that are needed for the district because your undies are in a bunch, only hurts the kids. I'm sorry that's not totally right, it hurts the teachers and staff who despite your small mindedness still show up every day to try and make a difference for our kids. Even if they reopened a middle school fired the district adminstration and elected a new board, you would still complain and find fault. You will eternally be a half empty person. I don't care if you vote no and slander our district and the leadership. I'm going to keep fighting for the kids and the teachers. If you were as holy and pure as you would like us to believe you would move past the past, and ask "what can I do to help my kids?" "We've weathered some tough times, now it is time to move on." But NO!!! You would rather tell your kids that this place sucks and "they" are failing you. When in actuality you are failing your kids. Your parents weren't this selfish and small minded. They worked their backsides off to provide a future for you and didn't complain. They worked in factories and mines and fields to give you a chance at a better life. Why can't you??? You have at your disposal more technology on your phone than sent the first rocket to the moon, you have more wealth than your parents ever dreamed of, yet you want to take your ball and go home because someone didn't do exactly what you wanted. Your parents and grandparents must roll their eyes or roll over in their graves everytime they hear you whine. They would or will tell you our society isn't about the "one" it is about the whole. It is about learning from our differences and growing. The synergy of the parts not the individual. I am not a fan club for CCUSD I am a fan for our kids and making it better for them. I know that it isn't about the supt, the board or a principal or secretary, it is about the teacher in the classroom. I've been in this district for almost 20 years and supts, principals and board members have come and gone; and you know what has been consistent - the teachers. New and old they show up and do what they can with what they have been given by a population that gives answers of why they won't support the district "I paid for my kid's education in Illinois, I should't have to pay for your kid's education." Or " the district wastes money on programs like Band or Athletics." "Why do our kids need to know a foreign language?"
8:30 The point you are missing is that I too once rallied for this district! My children, our families, the community are impacted by the reckless decisions this district makes.
ReplyDeleteOn the closure of DAMS...we closed an A+ excelling school in favor of a "New Building" with no plan to meld two rival schools. We kept 6th grade at an elementary school level even though 80% of those surveyed said they wanted to keep 6th grade at a middle school level The teachers spent two years wondering where they were going, if they would have a job. Those actions impacted the classroom and the teachers you claim to have so much passion for.
I am a parent of children in High School, Middle School, and the Elementary school...I have campaigned, fund raised, volunteered for this district...and will always advocate for the children but I am disgusted with the actions of this district.
If your children have already been raised and educated you are obviously not as close to the front lines as I am...My children are here now.
The assumptions you have made about who I am are similar to that of the District. You have created an imaginary enemy someone who reads the Sonoran News (nope, I don't) a snowbird (nope, I live here year round) Someone who doesn't support special programs (no again, I don't think we have enough) and someone who has no children in the game ( Not true I have several)
I was a friend to this district, and now I am not...The district needs to figure out why this is happening.
July 7, 10:16am, I applaude your effort and like you I was a firm supporter of our school, served on commitee after committee. My only comment would be that the district knows about all of this. They made a choice to ignore it and to circle around each other to protect their back sides. We parents that pulled our children out of Cave Creek did not do this without a lot of thought and conversations. The conversations happened with the Adminstration, so there are no surprises. My wish is they would go back to the parent that cared enough to let them know the challenges and make changes, they will keep some of the additional students planning on leaving. I wish them luck.

ReplyDeleteYou come off like you're the sole champion of the teachers and kids in CCUSD. There are many of us who have worked and/or sent our children to CCUSD schools and have faced nothing but disappointment from the district and site leadership. Don't martyr yourself as the Last Champion for CCUSD.
The tragic thing about this district is not its teachers but its continuous poor choices in leadership. CCUSD has not had any direction or strong leadership in the last 10 years. The Board has consistently consisted of those who are more interested in promoting their political agendas. The district office has suffered from weak superintendents who wreak personal vendettas on those who don't "fit the vision". The site principals demand loyalty from their staff, play favorites to those who show such loyalty, and allow their teachers do whatever they want as long as their behaviors aren't reported to the office by the community. Many of the teachers have transcended from being effective to becoming so arrogant and egotistical that they feel they do not need guidance, support, or even leadership.
In other words, CCUSD is a disappointment. This district was once a place where teachers finished their long careers. It was a place where there was enthusiasm whenever a new school was opened. It was a place where the education and general community rallied together to do what's in the best interest of kids.
Unfortunately, and especially under the leadership of Debbi Burdick and the "yes" people she has placed in leadership positions at CCUSD schools, the best interest of kids has not been considered for a very long time.
No one is disparaging the excellent teachers, admins or board members. We are talking about the greedy selfish ones that hide behind "it's for the the children" and "learning first". For the past 10 years, spending in the classroom and enrollment have been decreasing and yet these grown ups are still advocating for more and more spending. Like CCUSD Watch said, it's not the spending, it's the curriculum. Let not play the blame game and dilute the message. More spending does not solve the problem. Look it up in the AZ Auditor's report.
ReplyDeleteProgress at the High School seems to have come to a screeching halt. I'm wondering if someone hasn't gotten paid. School starts in one month where will everyone be parking!???
