CCUSD® Cave Creek Unified Teacher Accused of Telling Students to Suppress Free Speech

From the Sonoran News…

At CCUSD, does the end justify the means?

The Sonoran News reports that a teacher (who is married to the head of the Learn Yes political action committee) was telling students to destroy copies of the Sonoran News.

Not cool.

Would this teacher who by the way is the journalism teacher and in charge of printing the award winning Cactus Shadows newspaper, The CS Press, allow for students opposing its editorials to destroy copies of The CS Press. If this accusation is true, it sure seems like a poor decision.

  1. Don't jump to conclusions. The accusation is NOT true. It is typical Sonoran Blues propaganda.

  2. 9:11 That is quite the defense to blame the messenger.

You could be sure that if this was 'propaganda' and untrue, that LearnYes would be jumping all over the chance to discredit The Sonoran News.

  3. MMM - I don't even think they got the caption on the picture right (that is not Lori Hart, it is another member of LearnYes), so I have sincere doubts about the story.

  4. 9:11 - LearnYes does not stoop to the unethical methods of the Sonoran News. They are more respectable than that. On a sidenote, it would serve Sonoran News right if the woman in the photo sued their butt. Everyone is very sick of the slanderous BS this paper prints yet never retracts.

  5. Aside from sports reports, how many articles has Sonoran Blues published that are favorable toward the district? Is nothing good happening in a district that remains very competitive in spite of the very low tax rates (compared to other districts)?

It is a bluespaper, not a newspaper.

  6. I think SN needs to correct this one, or I think that the person in the picture should sue for defamation. This is an open/shut one. I also believe that the mistake was brought to SN's attention some time ago (this may not be the first time they have used the picture) and that it was not corrected at that time. Even the NY Times prints corrections - SN should not be above doing so and I doubt this is the first time they have made a mistake.

Also, LearnYes does not in any way discredit SN - go to the learnyes website and see if you see even one engagement of SN. Then go SN site and see if same is true about their treatment of LearnYes.

Watch - you will serve a much greater purpose for the CC community if you change your mission from being a critic of the school district to being a fair sounding board for people (can include yourselves if you want to still give critique) to discuss community issues including the schools and to give them a place to comment on and correct misinformation put out about the community by the local media. Just a hint since there is a local media organization that refuses to correct itself and rarely prints opinions that oppose its opinions.

  7. SN did not correct the photo image mistake and I am pretty sure they are aware of the mistake. However, they did run a letter that incorrectly pointed out a grammatical error so they could claim the letter writer wrong and defend the integrity of their article. I find that shameless in light of the fact that they did not admit their egregious mistake in running a picture of someone who is DEFINITELY NOT Lori Hart (just because there is more than one redhead on LearnYes does not make the identity of the redhead in the photo Lori Hart) and saying that it is Lori Hart. Shame on SN. It is no wonder that so many in the community do not believe a word they print.
