So disgusted at the gross and blatant power grab by the governing board.
CCUSD parents: When another rubber stamper\district sycophant\insider is appointed to the board shortly, you will be getting the school district you deserve! Enjoy…
but we as a community still have our "vote" eventually the "sanctions" against their pocket book will cause them no other option than to cooperate with the community
How do you feel the district does not cooperate with the community? Our school taxes are 1/2 of the Scottsdale district and 1/3 of Paradise Valley. We stopped at an open house for a 3.5 million dollar house high up on Black Mountain last week. The taxes on this house (total, not just school taxes) were less than $4000/year. Our friends from out of state were speechless. They would pay that much per month where they live. I don't see how CCUSD could possibly pare anymore off the budget without damaging the future of students in our district.
PowerGrab? Are you serious. Are you drinking the same Cave Creek conspiracy water that other CCUSD haters are drinking? Anybody, repeat anybody in our district was allowed to apply for this open seat. 5 people applied. 1 cancelled when they realized they had a calendar conflict. A group representing CCUSD had to reduce 4 applicants to 3. The final selection is made from these 3 by the Maricopa County Education Service Agency. 1 person eliminated makes a PowerGrab? Come on Watch, you are being even more stupid than claims made in past comments.
Before being submitted to the County Superintendent of Schools for selection to the CCUSD93 board, each of the three candidates had to receive the "blessings" (or imprimatur) of the following:
David Schaefer, President of the CCUSD93 governing board
Debbi Burdick, CCUSD93 Superintendent of Schools
Lori Hart, President of CCUSD93 Teachers' Association (teachers' union?)
Does January 27, 5:50pm (in response to "Disgusted") believe that any individual, with independent thoughts regarding the problems of the district, would be approved by this selection team?
One of the candidates highlighted her concern about teacher retention. Another candidate noted that "no student should be at a disadvantage because of what's happening economically". Alas, for reality!
CCUSD administrators do appear to have selective hearing when it comes to listening to teachers and parents. Many families moved to CCUSD looking for a small district focused on the basics but instead have a Superintendent intent on "attracting" new students and continuing to funnel precious resources into small unique programs better suited to a large district with financial means greater than ours. A few examples (facts not conspiracy)....We have IB at CSHS which serves very few students and is detrimental to the AP program. Students report that teachers are required to meet both AP and IB requirements in the same class and neither gets done fully or with justice. How does this put our students or teachers first? Small numbers of students in Spanish Immersion and "World Languages" receive small class instruction (e.g. 18 students) while other students and teachers struggle with large class sizes (45 and up). CCUSD looks to gain kindergarteners by keeping full day kindergarten. Having heard from many parents that they are willing to pay for the second half of the day, why are our upper grades being asked to subsidize what amounts to daycare for many parents (studies do not bare out any academic benefit be later elementary grades). A large part of CCUSD's problems in student retention has to do with selective attention to today's realities and feedback from parents and many teachers.
Unfortunately you are all too correct in your observations. Many more parents would be flocking to surrounding districts if they knew the truth about declining test scores, overcrowded classrooms and poorly planned curriculum in CCUSD.
Anonymous 11:40 and 10:25. You are proving yourselves to ranting idiots. Top school district in Maricopa County and you continue to bash the district. Are you brain dead or just another Cave Creek tax hater that will never approve of anything paid for with public tax dollars. Perhaps you are Linda Bentley pretending to be one of the many aliases of a concerned citizen watchdog of our community. Get a life, better yet, get an education, CCUSD could really help you out.
To all you CCUSD haters (including Watch) I have a question for you. Please do some thorough research before you answer. If CCUSD is doing such a terrible job, which district in our state would you sooner be more like? You must also be willing to accept paying that disttict's tax rate and accept their school report card scores.
Now aren't you happy that we have the great schools that we have with CCUSD? If not, it is obvious this has nothing to do with our schools but your issues with tax based public education. Now we have figured out the real problem.
