Ann Orlando named principal at Cheyenne Traditional in SUSD

Former Desert Arroyo principal Ann Orlando has been named interim principal at Cheyenne in Scottsdale Unified.  Congrats to her.

Cheyenne Traditional School
Ann Orlando has transferred to Cheyenne Traditional School as interim principal. Last school year, Ms. Orlando was the interim principal at Sequoya Elementary School. Ms. Orlando has 19 years of administrative experience including 14 years as principal at Desert Arroyo Middle School in Cave Creek Unified School District.

Now as far as the new principal selections in Cave Creek Unified, we are not impressed.  More to come.

  1. God help that school. The worst decision Scottsdale USD could have made. She should thank Pam Sitton for giving her the opportunity.

  2. Yes, congrats to Ann Orlando an outstanding educator and human being. It isn't hard to understand why SUSD continues to hold a place for you in their schools. We miss you, parents and students alike, past and present. My the grace that you carry be the light seen in you by all who come in contact with you. We miss you.

  3. R u Kidding Aug 3,@6:14...Ann's school DAMS was excelling, Ann's school DAMS was designated an A+ School when Deb Burdick and our board closed it in favor of Bill Dolezal and the "New Building" Sonoran Trails...Deb Burdick's poor management and poor decisions are coming back to haunt this district.

I'd have Ann Orlando and her excellence over Sonoran Trails and Bill Dolezal's failures any day.

    Congrat's to you Ann...

Pam Sitton and Ann Orlando...CCUSD93 could surely benefit from your expertise. Maybe you'll consider coming back and cleaning up this mess when the board decides Deb Burdick's reign of incompetence has gone on long enough.

  4. I agree with 8/3 @ 6:14AM. Thank God they're both there and not here. 8/3/11 @ 12:47 pm needs a reality check along with 8/3/11 @ 2:47pm let it go people, let it go. OK now breathe. Do you feel better? Oh, how silly of me. Didn't think so.

  5. Pam Sitton and Ann Orlando were terrible principals...at least in the eyes of Team Burdick, who favor failing grades, low test scores and declining enrollment

August 4 8:05 you sure do know how to recognize talent... Reality check??? Get your head out of the sand.. Ellie Gaines and Bill Dolezal were/are running those schools into the ground with Jana Miller and Deb Burdick running the backhoe.

I'll feel better in 2012 when we vote out the board that is sitting on the sidelines

  6. Pam Sitton was an excellent principal. She was able to rally her staff and was very knowledgeable.

Ann Orlando is no better than Debbi Burdick. She is a fraud and a phony with her rhetoric about "choose your attitude" and her philosophy about cognitive coaching, which was more her way of absolving herself of any responsibility or blame. She let her teachers run wild without any responsibility and repercussions. She enabled those staff members she "favored" and chastised those who didn't fit her vision or buy her baloney with her personal power ideology.

  7. So if Dolezal is underperforming as a principal, why is Burdick keeping him around? Why isn't she demoting him like she's apt to do with administrators whom she doesn't like or "fit her vision"? Dolezal is obviously not an effective principal. However, I heard he's a hit at the happy hours.

  8. There must be another reason that another 200 students have moved from CCUSD to Explorer Middle school..and you can't blame Pam Sitton for that one. Oh I guess you could as that seems to be how it flows with some people. No one person is perfect, but honestly if you were at BMES during Pam's tenure, there were no complaints compared to those under Elie's "lack of leadership".

  9. Back To School Night at BMES was exciting. Teachers were smiling, the principal was smiling, and so were kids. The only negative I heard that night came NOT from a parent of BMES, but from the current PRESIDENT of our GOVERNING BOARD. He was raving about another elementary school and how their enrollment was full to compacity, and the BMES has a lot work ahead, which is fine, however, it is sad that he chose Back to School Night at BMES for his forum to boost about another school and to slight, no actually SLAM BMES. Shame on you! I can't wait for the change in 2012.

  10. I want to share with all of you readers, the Welcome Back To School Night at BMES, really, was a WELCOME. After many years, we FINALLY have a principal who really cares about HIS teachers, parents, and students. I stood in line to meet Mr. Owsley and I must say, he has my support. I hope all of the parents out their give him a chance. The teachers were smiling, the parents and kids were smiling, and their was laughter and life in the school again! He took time to talk to each and every parent and student who approached him. I am not saying he just said hello, he shook my hand and my children's hands, and everyone elses and welcomed them. Now that is my kind of principal! I believe the "black cloud" is moving on and this year at BMES will be good and BMES will be a school to be proud of again. We have always had great teachers, parents, and students, and now, we have a great principal! I am not foolish enough to think this will be smooth sailing, there will be alot of obstacles, but if anyone can overcome these obstacles, I believe that it will be the new principal. I hope you all give him the change that he truly deserves.

  11. While my children cannot benefit from the change at Black Mountain,I too have heard good things from BMES...I wish the families, children, parents and teachers there the best...You Deserve it!

  12. My hope he is all that to BMES, never wished ONE bad thought on BMES..only wanted to the best. Best of Luck...

  13. I agree about Mr. Ousley, the new BMES principal!

I was very concerned about an issue involving my two sons and so I called him. He took the time to listen to me and help me(something that Ms. Gaines never did). Both of my sons even came home and told me that he is the "best principal". My youngest said that Mr. Ousley remembered his name! He was so excited about that! This was finally a great move by the district office!

  14. So how much longer will the district tolerate Bill Dolezal? When will they finally demote or fire him? How many failures does STMS have to experience under his leadership?

  15. Bill, Deb, Janna, Mark, Dave and Casey...Let's kick them all to the curb!

  16. I agree. Time to clean house!

  17. Time to take out the trash...You can't fix stupid but we can vote it out in 2012.

Let's get behind some board candidates that can turn this bus around!

  18. CCUSD hasn't had any good leadership in years. While many think Ann Orlando or Janiene Marlowe or Nancy Shaver or even Jana Miller were effective principals, the truth is that they lasted longer than the others who have come and fled the district running away from the madness of the district office and the administrators running the show. Debbi Burdick has made CCUSD even worse than it was prior to her appointment.

  19. It is time the board acknowledged the train wreck at our Administrative office. There are three seats up for re-election. It is time to find candidates that want more for this district than lower test scores, dropping enrollment, and an overall lackluster performance by our administration...You can't fix stupid, but you can vote it out in 2012!

  20. Well, I can tell you Ann Orlando is up to her old shenanigans un her new position - hiding in her office, dumping her work on everyone else, being detached, taking no responsibility. In other words, she's doing the same garbage she did at DAMS. Pity for Cheyenne Traditional School, which was always a good school with good leadership. Now they're stuck with Ann. Sigh.

  21. Here we go again. Left STMS where Dolezol ineffectively monitored simple things like dress code from the student handbook to be the students "friend" Not to mention honors classes packed past 40 students...I guess the smart kids need less supervision or something. Well not to dwell on the past now we've graduated to the HS. Don't even know where to start. Again unenforced dress code...c'mon guys it's already on the books for cryin' out loud JUST ENFORCE IT!! Ok then the overall lack of life from the admin staff. I've never seen a group of folks more unhelpful or motivated...do they remember they are on the tax payers dole....No wonder they can't get bonds passes! Oh and again classes with 40+ and OHHH big surprise HONORS again! Great job running or should I say ruining the district! No wonder folks are leaving the district in droves. Just so I don't sound so negative I did hear STMS is doing a much better job enforcing dress code this year. A step in the right direction. We just need more steps in the right direction. I don't see it happening with Burdick at the the stern....sorry!

  22. Rules were made to be broken and that is exactly what happens with a dress code and teenagers. Personally I find this to be a perfect learning opportunity for your child. You can discuss many things here, why would someone dress inappropriately, what message does this send to his/her peers...it's also a great opportunity for you to boost your child's confidence...You look great, I'm proud of the decisions you make and how you present yourself to the world.

    1. If that's how you feel, then don't send your kid(s) to a school that has a dress code policy. If you've ever done any research on dress codes especially being implemented in low-income areas, it's one thing that parents want as it creates an even playing field. Dress codes teach students how to follow the basic rules that are established within a given community. So when you tell your kids that they don't have to follow the School Dress Code policy, all you are teaching your child is that rules/boundaries don't matter. It's parents like this that are constantly bailing their kids out of learning opportunities that could teach your child consequences in a safe environment while they are still children. If they don't learn about rules now, then they will fall harder after they are adults when a judge won't be so kind!

  23. While I do understand your concerns about an apparent lack of care re: dress codes, I think we have to look a little deeper and unfortunately not just at home.

An even more important question we have to ask is why does the high school and board tolerate a teacher abusing her position by suggesting to our young men and women that virginity is overrated, that men are not capable of being monogamous (hence justifying polygamy and prostitution), that the Bible is merely stories, including offering her negative opinions (but stated as if fact) on various religious doctrines? Justification and politically correct excuses have been offered re various aspects of culture in the Muslim world, including that women were told to stay home more and cover up because they were being slutty. Hello, CCUSD....where do you stand? It's bad enough our teachers and students have to read from factually incorrect, albeit politically correct, textbooks, but apparently we have some teachers who feel they have the right to cross the line in their classroom discussions. No wonder our children are showing declining test performance........the focus does not appear to be on factual information pertaining to course topics and the encouragement of critical thinking skills. The environment becomes one of intimidation and bullying for many students. Unfortunately, this also appears to embolden some students to treat others disrespectfully as well due to differences of opinion.

While there are wonderful teachers, the administration needs to pay attention to what is happening in the classroom. When a teacher shares her opinion that "virginity" is overrated and uses language that refers to women as "sluts", why would we think a dress code would matter? What happens in the classroom matters. Please pay attention CCUSD!

7:49......You are absolutely right about the important conversations these issues can encourage at home. However, Teens also hate to be different and when even their "adult role models" at school present a negative view, it can add to the normal stresses of navigating life as a teen. Teens are teens doesn't negate "adults should be adults."

  25. In my opinion the Judicial system had more inside information of how distorted prior dsusd educational systems personnel department was and recognized the guy was being railroaded the same way many other employees had been to provide some form of budget changes that allowed more money to be available to persons in administrative positions since many received raises in pay after their assault that was perpetrated on many employees that allowed more money to be available in the budget to increase administrators or perpetrators taxable income.

  26. Further Ann Orlando shenanigans at Cheyenne - She's never around. She doesn't communicate with the teachers. The front office staff doesn't think much of her. Same with the staff. She's been missing in action for the last 3 days, and the assistant principal had to be called out of a meeting at district to handle a situation because Ann never came in to work.

Further evidence of how horrible a principal and a leader she is!
